Religious Education

Brisbane Water Ministers Association is only responsible for four Infant/Primary Schools, namely Woy Woy, Woy Woy South, Ettalong and Umina. All children enrolled in the name of one of these Protestant churches are taught in combined/ecumenical classes for half an hour each week by one of a team of volunteers – both Ministers and lay people.

  1. Each of these Protestant churches contributes a significant amount each year to provide each child with a colourful work book, and each teacher with a Teacher’s Handbook. For special occasions (Christmas, Easter, Education Week), the Protestant teachers join with the Roman Catholic teachers to present a special assembly for all children.
  2. Over fifteen years ago, all the Protestant churches in our area formed “Religious Education Ministries” to pay for a full-time Religious Education teacher at the then Umina High School. REM now supports two teachers at what has become Brisbane Water Secondary College (with campuses at Umina and Woy Woy). The funds for REM come from the donations of church and community members, and from special fund-raising events. Members of our Umina and Ettalong churches are very supportive of the REM ministry.
